The ProGrade Lever Handle Lock by Safety 1st works with your door handle's natural motion for easy and stress-free operation. It prevents the lever from turning in the locked position. Push button on lock and rotate handle to open door. Works right-handed or left.
Not perfect, but it worksReviewed by MJ28, 2010-01-16
This product does prevent the door from being opened if the
adhesive is correctly put on a clean surface. It's not the perfect
product, however it does work. Here are some of my
observations.
Pros:
Has a lock indicator to show if locked or unlocked (also color
coded green=locked red=unlocked)
Adhesive- no hardware necessary. Very simple to install
Obvious (stands out) to any door - which is a good reminder to
lock
Cons:
A bit pricey for such a simple design
Adhesive- can't remove and reuse without losing the
adhesive-ability
Cannot lock/unlock from other side of the door
Lock and unlock is a manual process, so everyone that uses that
door must remember to lock
Unattractive bulky design
Didn't work for meReviewed by M. Aldridge, 2009-11-14
This product would have been great if it would have fit our lever style door handles. The handle of our doors stuck out farther than the safety lock so it didn't stop it from turning. (Our handles seem to be the same as most others I have seen in homes.) Of course I only found this out after I had adheared it to the door and had to try to get it back off.
Great product!Reviewed by G. Dewey, 2009-09-28
This is a great product if you are looking to keep your toddler from opening a door in your home. I have no worries about my child opening doors with this lock on. It is easy to use and actually looks good.
DisappointedReviewed by Olivia N. Orth, 2009-08-17
My main disappointment with this lock is that the adhesive is not
strong. My 2-year-old pulled it right off the door by hanging on it
(she was trying to open the door, which of course is what it's
supposed to prevent.)
Also, be aware that unlike traditional/round doorknob saftey
latches, you have to lock it. To me this is not safe because
everyone in your house may not remember to keep it locked. Also,
once this latch is locked you can't open the door from the other
side, so it really isn't any different than locking the door with a
regular lock. Also, if you want to go into the garage, for example,
without your toddler following, it's ineffective because you can't
lock it from the other side, unless you buy one for each side.
